PowerPoint now supports selecting multiple object on a slide!
You have to press and hold an object with one finger and then tap other objects with another finger.
Problem solved!!!!

Is it possible to select multiple shapes in Powerpoint for iPad so, for example, I and move a group of items around the screen together?

Selecting multiple objects is currently not supported in PowerPoint for iPad.
If a set of items is already grouped (using a different client like PowerPoint for Windows/Mac), you can move those objects as a group on the iPad.
Thanks for the feedback, and let us know if there is anything else you would like to see improved!
Good feedback.
To others who want to see specific features added to the mobile versions of PowerPoint, do what Sam's done here:
Provide detailed explanations of why the feature is important to you, how you intend to use it, and the problems its absence causes you. In other words, give MS a *reason* to add the feature you're after.
Remarks like "bush league" are rude and unconstructive. Insulting someone is not the best way to get them on your side (and Derek's one of the guys you WANT on your side if you want someone to go to bat for you with your feature requests).
Hello there I noticed that this topic has been brought up almost a year ago, and I don't see updates to PowerPoint that have made this feature available. Can you give us insight as to whether this feature is going to be made available soon?
Hi,
I don't work for Microsoft; I'm a volunteer here. I know MS' goal is to have all of the platforms PPT runs on offer the same capabilities, to the extent possible. But I don't know what features are on their immediate To-Do list, or in what order.
I do know that they're paying close attention to the suggestions and votes here:
User Voice (http://powerpoint.uservoice.com/)
Be sure to click on the PowerPoint for iPad and iPhone link on the right before making your suggestion.
Post a link to your suggestion back here so others who want the same feature can go and upvote it.
This was a popular request for the Online version of PowerPoint and I see that it's been implemented already.
Vote early, Vote often. ;-)
