I get the error

When attempting to save in any Office application (Word and Excel being the 2 I use). I have tried to fix the issue using the automated fixes, both the 'quick fix' and 'use the internet' fix. Neither have worked. Every time I try to save a document, the program crashes and I get the above error. How can I fix this?

I had the exact same problem with a client's computer. Through a process of elimination, I found that Malwarebytes caused the issue. As soon as I disabled it, I could save files to any drive letter.

Thank you!  I wish I could keep Malwarebytes going, but looks like more trouble than it may be worth!

I uninstall a software which prevent from malware (malwarebytes installed 2 days before) and it works.

I went into Malwarebytes and turned off Applications Microsoft Word and Excel, but kept Malwarebytes working because I trust them.  Seems to have fixed my problem.

You CAN keep Malwarebytes working (I hope you have the PREMIUM version).

    Go to the Dashboard.

    Select SETTINGS

    Select the PROTECTION Tab

Select Exploit Protection MANAGE PROTECTED APPLICATIONS (2nd item down on the Protection Tab)

TURN OFF the MICROSOFT OFFICE items (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher)

    Select OK at the bottom

This allowed me to get the directory functions back AND keep Malwarebytes running for protection.

Alternatively you can purchase IOBIT Antimalware. It does not have problems with the directory function

I have BOTH IOBIT and MalwareBytes (with the above adjustment) running and everybody is happy.
