Dear Neha,

Since we have exactly the same issue I can provide you with the answers.

  1. The screenshot of the error
  2. It happens when one opens file saved to the OneDrive folder on PC.
  3. If I quit ObeDrive app file opens normaly (not read only) and lets edit it. If then I launch OneDrive app - file is being synced. So it looks like OneDrive app doesn't let Excel open file.

    Hi Mykola,

I would suggest you try unlinking your account in OneDrive for Business settings then re-add your account to see if the problem still persists. Also, please try removing the file from your OneDrive sync folder, then upload the file to OneDrive for Business website.

Moreover, would you please confirm whether the problem only happen to this file or all the files in the OneDrive sync folder?

    Regards,

    Tisky

    Hi, Tisky!

I tried unlinking and relinking and it happens again.

It happens with all types of files but only with the newly added ones. Even if I try to open them after they were initially synced. But later (I can't figure out when exactly - after a couple of hours of after restart) they become available to be edited.

So it really looks they just after being saved to the local OneDrive folder files are being busy with OneDrive app which blocks other applications from making changes to it (files are marked as read only)

    Hi Mykola,

    Thanks for your update.

Based on your description, please try the following steps in this article: "Sorry, another account from your organization is already signed in on this computer" error when you try to sign in to an Office 2013 app to remove the account identities and check the result.

Note: The article refers to Office 2013, for Office 2016, the registry key path is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities. You could firstly remove credentials with steps below, and then remove account identities. At last restart your computer and re-sign into Office apps.

    1. Sign out your current account in Excel.

    1. Open Control Panel > search for Credential Manager > remove Microsoft related credentials in both Web Credentials and Windows Credentials.
    2. Restart your computer.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Edit at your own risk.

    Regards,

    Tisky
