Dear Neha,

Since we have exactly the same issue I can provide you with the answers.

  1. The screenshot of the error
  2. It happens when one opens file saved to the OneDrive folder on PC.
  3. If I quit ObeDrive app file opens normaly (not read only) and lets edit it. If then I launch OneDrive app - file is being synced. So it looks like OneDrive app doesn't let Excel open file.

    Hi Mykola,

To further investigate the problem, we'd like to confirm more information with you.

From your last reply, I know that if you open the file in Excel app, it opens as read only, but I'd like to confirm that are you open it through Open in Excel button in Excel Online?

It is important through this method, it will skip the OneDrive syncing part, if the problem still happen, we need to collect the log file via Private Message.

On the other hand, we would suggest you try resetting your OneDrive since most of the OneDrive problems can be resolved by this method:

    1. Type Run in Start search and hit Enter to open the Run box.

    1. Insert %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

You will see the OneDrive icon in the notification disappear and then reappear again.

This may take a while to run, but once the process is complete, your OneDrive app and settings will now have been reset to default values.

If the OneDrive cloud icon doesn't re-appear after a minute or two, open the Run box again, enter the following and hit Enter: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe

At the meantime, we'd like to confirm some other information:

    1. Please confirm where did you stored the file, in OneDrive for Business or SharePoint Online library, if is stored in SharePoint Online, whether the files in other library encounter the same problem?
    2. Please check if the problem happens on another computer with your OneDrive account.

    Regards,

    Tisky

    Dear Tisky,

I have replied to your private message.

If I open file by clicking Open in Excel in Excel online it opens ok. As far as I understood it sends link to the excel. And the issue appears when I open file on the local drive.

I guess problem is connected with permissions for files.

    Hi Mykola,

    Thanks for the log file.

Since you don’t encounter the problem when you open the file through Open in Excel button in Excel Online, then the problem may related to the OneDrive for Business, we'd like to collect the OneDrive log, please check your private message.

Meanwhile, we'd like to confirm where did you stored file? You mentioned that it's on the local drive, are you refer to the OneDrive sync folder?

And to narrow down whether the problem is related to the permissions for files, you can create a new file in a new library, then sync the file to the local OneDrive sync folder to check if the problem remains. And please confirm where did you stored the file online, In SharePoint Online library or OneDrive for Business?

    Regards,

    Tisky

We are not using libraries or maybe I get something wrong. We use OneDrive app to sync files to Cloud to have them for further online access when away from office.
