Microsoft Excel for Mac database corruption (sqlite)

Dear Microsoft Support Team,

we have problems with Microsoft Excel for Mac. Whenever we start the application it asks to recover the last state of a document. It doesn't state which document it wants to repair and if we accept it opened up the last couple of documents that we have worked on. This only occurs once whenever the application is started. In the console there are hundreds of errors like:

Microsoft Excel database corruption at line 89345 of [2b954060f]

/Applications/Microsoft Excel.app/Contents/MacOS/Microsoft Excel (/usr/lib/libsqlite3.dylib)

Subsystem: com.apple.libsqlite3 Category: logging

Activity ID: 0 Thread ID: 0xcf71 PID: 715

What can we do to solve the problem? Where is the sqlite database stored? Can we delete them so that Excel creates a new one?

Kind regards,

Oliver

    Hi Oliver,

I've read through this thread. What we have suggested is to follow the easiest way to avoid this problem - use the new user profile.

If it is inconvenient for you to do that and you'd like to further dig into the problem, we may need to involve more resources for help.

In the meantime, you can share the logs you collected with us. To protect your privacy, I've sent you PM to collect them.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hi Oliver,

As you mentioned at beginning, we found that the libsqlite3.dylib is under in com.apple category.

Meanwhile, I found Graphics card hangup? mentioned the module "libsqlite3.dylib" in Apple Developer Forums. The error logs were similar with the situation you encounter. Additionally, the user mentions that he is also getting the error in Safari, so it may be that you have not encountered the issue in another app, but it is not solely an Excel issue.

Considering the issue has gone when you create a new user profile on Mac, we thought that it might be more related to corrupt user profile. So I redirect you to Apple support for further assistance in my last reply. Let me know if you still have any concerns and we will do our best to assist.

    Regards,

    Eli

The user profile consists of files and folders. Some of them a part of Microsoft Office for Mac, and they seem to be broken. The error messages clearly state that there is a issue in the SQLite database. But where is this located? There is nothing Apple could help me with as this is an application specific problem. I am a developer myself so basic troubleshooting on my side is not a problem, but I would have expected a little more help than referring me to another provider.

    Hi Oliver,

    Thanks for your updated information.

Considering you have done these attempts you mentioned, if you follow the articles "Uninstall Office 2016 for Mac" and "Download and install or reinstall Office 365 or Office 2016 on a PC or Mac" to reinstall Office 365, the issue remains.

While the issue has gone when you create a new user profile on Mac by following macOS Sierra: Set up users, guests, and groups on your Mac, the issue may be caused by corrupt user profile.

Given this situation, I would suggest you contact to Apple supports who have more experience to handle this situation. Thank you for your understanding.

    Best Regards,

    Eli
