Sharepoint online cannot change content type from folder

Hello

Up until a couple of months ago, we were able to change content-type of folder to a customised folder. We are no longer able to do this, content-type is not even showing in the details pane any more, it used to be.

These SharePoint sites are all created as a result of creating Teams.

We have allow management of content-types set to yes at the library level for all of these sites.

Does anyone know if there has been a setting changed that would have caused this and how to rectify this?

We are desperate to fix this, if anyone knows the answer, that would be fantastic.

Thanks for your help.

    Hi Terry,

Sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused.

I did a test with team sites created with Teams on my side, but I cannot reproduce the same problem.

    Here my detailed steps:

    1. Access to a SharePoint team site comes with Teams > Site settings > Click on Site content types under Web Designer Galleries > click Create > select Folder Content Types and setup other properties > OK

Note: The type under Parent Content Types must be selected as Folder. If you select Discussion, the content type cannot be displayed normally in the next step.

    1. Access to a document library on that site > Library settings > Advanced settings, select Yes to Allow management of content types > OK.
    2. Back to Library settings, click Add from existing site content types.

    1. Select Custom Content Types, add Folder 1, click OK.

    1. Back to the document library, click New, the content type displays correctly.

For the problem you encountered, we need to collect some information to further check it:

    1. You mentioned "content-type is not even showing in the details pane", could you share with us a screenshot of it?  We would like to know which detailed pane is.
    2. Is there a problem in team sites that not created with Teams?

    Appreciate your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Madoc

    Hi Madoc

    Thank you for your reply.

I am able to create content-types as you described above, the problem is not creating them, it's changing the content type from folder to another content type that I have created.  I was able to do this previously but not now.

To change content type, it needs to be in the details pane so that if I select a folder and then go to the details pane I could change it before.  Now when I select a folder and go to change it in the details pane, it's not there.

Creating Teams is fine, the problems appears to be in SharePoint the details pane no longer shows content type for folders.

Content types are displayed in the details pane for customised content types that I create but content type is not displayed for folders.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Terry,

    Thanks for your detailed explanation.

I did a test on my side with sites created with Teams, and the problem didn’t occur.

Because you mentioned that the affected sites are created with Teams, and the settings of your SharePoint libraries are correct, there might be some problems with your tenant, something needed to be checked from the backend. However, our community support team has limited resources, I’d like to recommend you to escalate this issue to the related product team by creating a support ticket in the Office 365 Admin Centervia Global Admin, the support engineers there have the correct escalation channel and this is the most efficient way to report such a back end issue for Office 365 Online Services. Appreciate your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Madoc

    Hi Madoc

Thank you for this.  I just wanted to clarify that you created a standard folder (Content-type = "Folder") and then changed it to a custom content-type of 1111 using the details pane.

    Is that correct?

    Cheers.

    Terry
