Am attempting to upload files to SharePoint of several clients.

Upload begins normally. After 2 - 4 mb of data transferred upload resets to 0 and begins again.

Upload continues normally until half of file is uploaded (eg 21.2mb of 42.4mb file)

Upload stops.

Approx. 5 minutes later error message "error in the application" appears.

Upload stopped.

File is displayed in SharePoint folder, but contains no data.

    Hi Dawn,

Thank you for sharing your experience here. We have checked your reply, and we found you encountered the same error message as original poster’s, and this issue occurs on image heavy PowerPoint files.

As we mentioned above, to narrow down this issue and better understand your situation, could you also provide the information below?

    1. May I know if your colleagues have the same problem? You can contact your colleagues to check if the same problem will occur on their side.
    2. May I know if this issue also occurs in OneDrive for business? You can go to OneDrive for business to upload the same file to check if the same problem will occur.
    3. May I know if all SharePoint document libraries have the same problem?
    4. May I know if this issue occurs on the other types of files?

    Thank you for your understanding!

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

Hi Sukie and Fellow SharePoint Users,

I have also been struggling with this same exact issue when attempting to upload excel documents. I upload these large documents monthly and only had an issue starting this week.

    1. May I know if your colleagues have the same problem? You can contact your colleagues to check if the same problem will occur on their side. Yes they are having the same issue.
    2. May I know if this issue also occurs in OneDrive for business? You can go to OneDrive for business to upload the same file to check if the same problem will occur. Yes it is also occurring in OneDrive. Same exact error message and always errors out at 46.3MBs.
    3. May I know if all SharePoint document libraries have the same problem? Testing at least two completely different libraries and the same issue is occurring (also errors at exactly 46.3MBs)
    4. May I know if this issue occurs on the other types of files? Based on the above examples for other users... it clearly having issues with PowerPoint. I have specifically tried uploading excel documents and its also failing.
    5. Upload Methods Used I have also tried uploading by using 2 methods: the upload drop down and following the prompts and the drag and drop method.
    6. Use of other browsers I've tried Edge, Firefox and Chrome. Same exact results.

I am able to upload (based on testing) file sizes of 43MB and smaller so far. When I attempt to upload my 92MB file it will error at the 46.3MB upload mark.

My next question is did Microsoft put a file size cap on OneDrive and SharePoint?

    Dear Kts123,

Thanks for providing the detailed information for our troubleshooting.

I do a test and it seems that I can't reproduce such an issue in our environment. Based on the article, the maximum size of each individual uploaded file is 250 GB. As the issue happens in multiple libraries in your environment, sorry for the inconvenience the issue caused and I'm afraid that it may be a default Upload option issue in your environment which may need to be involved with some logs from your side with our related team. I kindly suggest you contact the administrator in your company and open a support ticket to our related team as soon as possible so that they can help you further.

Meanwhile, I'd like you to try uploading files with the OneDrive sync client to see if you can upload such files. If yes, I suggest you use it as a current workaround.

To help you simplify the process of opening the support ticket, I'd like to summarize the issue as follows.

    Issue Symptom:

    ====================

When uploading the files whose size is more than 92MB onto the OneDrive for Business , the error message "error in the application" appears.

    Issue Environment:

    ====================

SharePoint Online and the OneDrive for Business library

    Possible Workaround:

    ====================

Upload files with the OneDrive sync client

@William and Dawn, as you are experiencing the same error message when uploading the files of different sizes which don't reach the SharePoint Online upload limit onto SharePoint Online, I think that the issues you are experiencing may be an unexpected behavior and also need some logs' analysis with our related team further. Please contact the administrators in your organizations and open a support ticket to our related team as soon as possible for further investigation. Currently also welcome to try the OneDrive for Business sync client to see if you can upload the files.

Sorry for that our category may have limited resources to contact our related team directly.

Thanks for your understanding and hope that the issue can be fixed soon in your environments.

    Cliff

I have also had this issue for the past two weeks - very frustrating.

I have a 111 MB file that pauses half-way through its upload (55.7) then lists an application failure as the error.

I have also noticed that the file itself "uploads" with a size of zero (corrupted), with only about 10% of the upload completed.

It fails to upload in any folder. Smaller sized files have no issue. I went as far as recreating the entire file from scratch, saving it under a different name and still the same error.

I have also cleared all cache from the Office Center.

    Any further suggestions?

    Thank you,

    Eric

    1. May I know if your colleagues have the same problem? You can contact your colleagues to check if the same problem will occur on their side.
Yes - colleagues in the US, UK and NZ have this issue
    2. May I know if this issue also occurs in OneDrive for business? You can go to OneDrive for business to upload the same file to check if the same problem will occur.
Yes - is occurs there too
    3. May I know if all SharePoint document libraries have the same problem?
Large PowerPoint and Word files - containing images - they will upload if they are zipped, but not as they are
    4. May I know if this issue occurs on the other types of files?
These are the only files exhibiting this behavior
