There is a template in Microsoft Word called "tactical business marketing plan". On the last page of the template, there is a table. I would appreciate it if anyone can please explain how the gap is created between the columns. Thanks!

Regards,

Mahmood

Thank you for the additional information and screenshot. It appears that the gap between the columns in the table is achieved by using vertical borders with white shading.

You can create a vertical border with white shading to simulate a gap between columns.

    Hi Mahmood

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd be happy to help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

The gap between columns in a table in Microsoft Word can be adjusted by modifying the cell margins. Here are the steps to adjust the gap between columns in a table:

Click on the table to select it. On the "Table Tools" tab, click on "Layout". Click on "Cell Margins" in the "Alignment" group. In the "Cell Margins" dialog box, adjust the values in the "Inside" section to increase or decrease the gap between columns. Click "OK" to apply the changes. Note that the gap between columns will be the same throughout the table, so if you want different gaps in different parts of the table, you'll need to create separate tables or merge and split cells as needed.

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas

Hi Anna, thank you very much for your time and help.

It seems I could not explain my question with clarity. The solution you provided creates a gap around table cells. Following is an image from a Microsoft template "Tactical business marketing plan" and the table is obviously not created using "Allow spacing between cells" option. I have been formatting documents in Word for decades this looks like something new and interesting to me. Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Thanks, Anna. Here is another screenshot. If you could review the template, it might be helpful to understand. Thank you very much!

Check the values for left and right cell margins. Also, investigate if this could be caused by the distance between text and border lines (assuming that the borders have been applied to text paragraphs in the cells and not to the cells themselves).
