It says that Word has encountered an error and needs to be fixed. I click on the fix button, it disappears and nothing happens. I try to print and it won't. It has now prevented me from printing anything. I've tried to delete the print request in my printer but it is stuck. How can I fix the word error and regain my printing?

The repair offered with that message is often inadequate.

It is the same as the Quick Repair as far as I can tell.

    Do an online repair.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

If you haven't tried anything yet please try manual repair:

First, please check if your Microsoft 365 is active or if your Office license is listed. You can do this by signing in at https://account.microsoft.com/services if the subscription is active, try these steps:

    Repair Office apps:

    • Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
    • Find Microsoft 365 or Office in the list, select it, then choose Change > Quick Repair.
    • If that doesn’t help, run the repair again but select Online Repair instead.

    Check for updates:

    • Open any Office app (if it opens even briefly), go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
    • Restart your device after repair and try opening the apps again.

If the apps still don’t open, please let me know if you’re using Microsoft 365 or a one-time purchase version (like Office 2021), so I can guide you with the next specific steps.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions or concerns.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

To resolve the issue with Word encountering an error and to regain your printing capabilities, follow these steps:

    1. Exit all Office applications: Make sure that Word and any other Office apps are completely closed.
    2. Run an Online Repair:
      • Go to Settings > Apps in Windows.
      • Find Microsoft Office in the list of installed apps.
      • Click on it and select Modify.
      • Choose Online Repair and follow the prompts to repair your Office installation. This process may take some time and might require a reinstallation of Office.
    3. Check your printer queue: If there are stuck print jobs, you may need to clear them. Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select See what's printing. From there, you can cancel any stuck print jobs.
    4. Restart your computer: After performing the repair, restart your computer to ensure all changes take effect.
    5. Test printing again: Once your computer is back on, try printing a document to see if the issue is resolved.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to completely uninstall Office, restart your PC, and then reinstall Office from your Microsoft account.
