Good morning,

The account originally had a @hotmail.com address, by error I deleted it. After recovering the account it changed to @outlook.com, but the old @hotmail.com alias disappeared and now returns error 550.

All emails are still in the mailbox.

Please I need to restore my [moderator's note: PII removed]@hotmail.com

Best regarts

    Hi Lissette Nahmens

I understand this situation can be frustrating, especially since that @hotmail.com address was your original one.

From what you described, the mailbox itself is still there, which is why your existing emails are still available. However, if a Microsoft email alias such as @hotmail.com, @outlook.com, @live.com, or @msn.com is removed from the account, that alias is permanently deleted and can’t be restored or linked back to a Microsoft account again.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas.

I understand this is not the result you were hoping for. At this point, the old @hotmail.com alias itself cannot be recovered, but you can continue using the current address on the account, since your mailbox data is still intact. In addition, please note that it isn't possible to create a new alias using @hotmail, @live.com, or @msn.com. If a Hotmail address is important to you, you need to sign out and create a new account. For more information, please visit Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com - Microsoft Support

If that old address was being used on other websites or services, I’d recommend updating those accounts to your current email address as soon as possible.

You can also review your current aliases here https://account.live.com/names/Manage

I hope this information helps clarify the situation. Thank you so much for your understanding.

The deleted @hotmail.com alias cannot be restored.

When an alias from a Microsoft-owned domain such as @hotmail.com is removed from a Microsoft account, it is permanently deleted and cannot be associated with any Microsoft account again. This applies even if the main account was later recovered and now uses an @outlook.com address; the old @hotmail.com alias remains unavailable, which is why sending to it returns error 550.

All existing emails remain accessible in the mailbox under the current primary address, but the specific @hotmail.com address itself cannot be brought back or reused.
