I want to install Office 2024. I got a product key and have downloaded successfully. I can't get the installer to install Office 2024. It keeps trying to steer me to Office 365. I don't want a cloud based Office. I just want it on my laptop, and save to my laptop

    Hello !

Just to confirm, what platform are you using to access Office? Depending on the platform you're using, the troubleshooting steps will vary.

If you're using a Mac, please note that the installer is the same for Microsoft 365 and Office 2024 apps. The type of license you're using is determined by the license you have linked to your Microsoft account.

Looking forward to your answer !

To install Office 2024 (non‑subscription) and avoid being pushed to Microsoft 365, follow these steps:

    1. Confirm the correct type of license
      • Office "Home & Student 2024" or "Office 2024" one‑time purchase is tied to a Microsoft account.
      • Volume/"Plus" editions like Office Professional Plus 2024 or LTSC Professional Plus 2024 are volume licenses meant for organizations, not individuals. If the product name includes “Plus” or “LTSC” and was bought from a third party, it is likely a volume license and may not install/activate as a consumer product.
    2. Make sure the product key is redeemed correctly (home/consumer versions)
      • Go to https://setup.office.com.
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account that will own Office 2024.
      • Redeem the product key if not already redeemed.
      • When redemption is complete, the product is linked to that account.
    3. Install from the Microsoft account (not from generic 365 links)
      • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account used to redeem or purchase Office 2024.
      • Under Services & subscriptions, locate Office Home 2024 / Office 2024.
      • Select Install → Install on this device to download the correct one‑time‑purchase installer.
      • Run the downloaded setup file and follow the prompts. This installs the desktop apps locally; they can save files directly to the laptop.
    4. Remove conflicting Microsoft 365/other Office installs first
      • On Windows 11: Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
      • Uninstall any of the following if present:
        • Microsoft 365 / Office 365
        • Office Trial
        • Any other Office 2021/2024 editions that are not the one just purchased
      • Restart the device, then run the Office 2024 installer again.
    5. Activate Office 2024 locally
      • After installation, open Word from Start.
      • When prompted, sign in with the same Microsoft account used above.
      • Accept the license agreement. Office activates and is ready to use.
      • Files can be saved to local folders (e.g., Documents) even if OneDrive is offered as an option.

If the product name includes Professional Plus 2024 or LTSC Professional Plus 2024 and was bought from a reseller, it is a volume license not intended for individual consumers; in that case, contact the seller, as such licenses are not supported for personal purchase and may not activate correctly.
