Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
I understand you want to “edit/rename” an Outlook address after the account is already created, if the domain/address is available. Are you trying to change a Microsoft address (example: ******@outlook.com) or a custom/work domain address?
For Outlook.com (personal) accounts, you can’t directly “edit” an existing address like renaming it in place. The supported options are:
- Add a new address as an alias on the same Microsoft account (keeps the same inbox/contacts/settings)
- Use the same inbox/contacts/settings, and you can sign in with any alias. Use Microsoft’s alias management page to add one. See: Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com - Microsoft Support and Change the email address or phone number for your Microsoft account - Microsoft Support
- Make the new alias your primary (so it becomes the main address shown on Microsoft devices and can be used as default “From”)
- Your “default From” is tied to the primary alias, and you can also send from other aliases via the From dropdown once available. See: Send email from a different address in Outlook.com - Microsoft Support
- Important (so you don’t lose an address): If you remove a Microsoft-domain alias (for example @outlook.com/@hotmail.com/@live.com/@msn.com), it cannot be reused later.
