Am I able to edit an outlook address once the account has already been established if the domain is available?

Thanks!

    Hi Camila Romero Maya

I understand you want to “edit/rename” an Outlook address after the account is already created, if the domain/address is available. Are you trying to change a Microsoft address (example: ******@outlook.com) or a custom/work domain address?

For Outlook.com (personal) accounts, you can’t directly “edit” an existing address like renaming it in place. The supported options are:

No. An existing Outlook.com email address (for example, ******@outlook.com, ******@hotmail.com) cannot be renamed or edited once it has been created, even if the same address or domain appears to be available.

For Microsoft consumer accounts, the only options are:

    1. Add a new alias (additional email address) to the same Microsoft account, and optionally make it the primary alias.
    2. Create a new Outlook.com address as a separate Microsoft account.

Important behaviors from the documentation and community guidance:

    • Outlook.com addresses are tightly bound to their Microsoft account and cannot be moved or merged between accounts.
    • Microsoft does not allow account merging, so an existing Outlook.com address cannot be attached to a different Microsoft account.
    • If an Outlook.com/Hotmail/Live/MSN alias is removed from an account, it is permanently deleted and cannot be associated with any Microsoft account again.

So the original Outlook.com address itself cannot be edited; instead, create or add a new alias and use that going forward.
