Please help. I am trying to update my payment method to renew my office 365 membership. I have used 2 cards that are both active and have plenty of funds on them. The system is not allowing the payment to process

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. Sorry to know about this. If your card is up to date and you have also verified that it is working for other purchase that you made online, please check and try this on a different browser or by using inPrivate or Incognito browsing and another alternative is to link your card to PayPal and use it as payment method. Please see below for other things that you can also check with regards to this issue.

    • Enter your name precisely as it appears on the card and only include your middle initial if it appears on your card.
    • If this is a company card, enter the company name as both a first name and last name. For example, if the company name is "My Company" you may split the company name into the first and last name fields.
    • If the company only has one name, for example, "Company," enter the company name in both the first and last name fields.
    • If you are asked to enter the address and it exceeds the Address 1 field, use the Address 2 field and do not shorten or abbreviate your address.
    • The card number and type cannot be edited, so if you make a mistake, you'll need to add a new one with the correct information. Other credit card information can be edited, such as billing address and expiration date.

If you will still encounter an issue even after trying out the alternatives, you can reach out to the support team at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/ and then click on Microsoft 365 and then click Get Home Support and then type in Billing question and click the blue button that says Sign in to contact Support and login and proceed from there.

Follow these steps to resolve the payment issue and renew the Microsoft 365 subscription:

    1. Confirm subscription and past-due status
      • Go to Services & subscriptions at https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account used for the subscription.
      • Find the Microsoft 365 subscription and check if it shows Past due or needs renewal.
      • If it is past due, select Pay now and follow the flow to complete payment.
    2. Update or change how you pay
      • On the same Services & subscriptions page, select Manage for the subscription, then choose Change how you pay (this is available if recurring billing is on).
      • If you don’t see Change how you pay, recurring billing may be off and the subscription will end when the current term expires.
      • From Change how you pay, either:
        • Select an existing valid payment method, or
        • Select Add a new way to pay and add a different card or payment option.
    3. Fix common card problems
      • Make sure the card details (number, expiration date, name, billing address including city, state, and ZIP/postcode) match exactly what the bank has on file.
      • Confirm there are sufficient funds.
      • The payment method must be issued from the same country/region as the account/tenant.
      • If the card is repeatedly declined or cannot be added, contact the bank or card issuer to check for security blocks or restrictions, then try again.
    4. Strong Customer Authentication (MFA) requirements
      • If an email was received saying multi-factor authentication is required to process the payment, follow the instructions in that email to approve the transaction (enter the code sent by the bank, or confirm in the bank’s app).
      • If a code from the bank does not arrive or does not work, use the Resend code option and verify mobile/email details with the bank.
    5. If payment is still not processing
      • If both active cards with sufficient funds still fail after checking details and contacting the bank, contact Microsoft Support for billing assistance so they can review the account and payment attempts.
