Hi, I just want to update that it somehow got activated itself when I opened my PC earlier today. Not sure why or how since I never tried or change any settings. But since it's working, it's all good now! Thanks for the help!
Windows Activation Issue after changing hardware
Hi, I am having issue activating Windows on my new system after changing my hardware. I have just switched system from old AM2 Platform to Intel LGA1851 platform. On my old system, I have my Windows installed in a Kingston SSD and activated. On my new system, I have installed in my Samsung SSD but unactivated.
I clicked "Change Product Key" and entered my key but I got the error:
"It looks like the hardware on this device has changed. Make sure you're connected to the Internet and try again later. (0xc0ea000a).
After that, I clicked "Troubleshoot" and saw the same error message.
I then clicked "I changed hardware on this device recently", it loads for awhile and came up with this error message:
Unable to activate Windows
We can't reactivate Windows as our servers aren't available right now. Wait for a few minutes or try adding your Microsoft account again.

I then installed my old SSD to my new system to check if it Windows still activated there. At first Windows wasn't activated but when I press "Troubleshoot" it found the device and managed to activated it. So on my old SSD the Windows is activated but on my new SSD the Windows could not be activated.
I have also ran these on the Windows in my new SSD:
slmgr /upk
slmgr /cpky
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (my Windows key)
slmgr /ato
The first 3 commands were successful, but after the 4th one I encountered this error:
Windows Script Host
"Activating Windows(R), Professional edition
(4de7cb65-cdf1-4de9-8ae8-e3cce27b9f2c)...
Error 0xC0EA000A CLiP license device ID does not match the device ID in the bound device license. (SWbemObjectEx)
I am now stuck and not sure what to do to activate Windows on my new SSD. Please advice!

Where did you get your Windows licence was that pre-installed on the PC or did you purchase a full retail Windows licence direct from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer?
Or is your Windows licence based on a previous Windows 7 or 8 licence?

Download the free ShowKeyPlus app from the Microsoft Store.
On the that app, click 'Check Edition', then enter your product key into that app.
Please provide a screenshot of that app window and please hide your product key in the screenshot.

2026-04-30T10:27:48.8+00:00 Error 0xC0EA000A indicates that the license currently bound to the device does not match the new device’s hardware ID. Since the hardware (platform and SSD) has changed, Windows is treating this as a different device and the bound digital license is not automatically transferring.
Follow these steps in order:
- Confirm sign-in with the correct Microsoft account
- Sign in to Windows 11 on the new SSD with the same Microsoft account that was used when Windows was activated on the old SSD.
- Ensure the device is connected to the internet.
- Use the Activation troubleshooter on Windows 11
- Select Start > Settings > System > Activation.
- If Windows is not activated, select Troubleshoot.
- When the troubleshooter shows Windows can’t be activated on your device, select I changed hardware on this device recently, then Next.
- Sign in with the connected Microsoft account if prompted.
- From the list of devices linked to the Microsoft account, select the checkbox for This is the device I’m using right now, then select Activate.
- If the troubleshooter still fails with server or device-ID errors
- Wait and retry later in case of temporary activation server issues.
- If the device does not appear in the list or activation still fails, direct assistance from Microsoft support is required so they can locate the digital license on the account and rebind/activate it for the new hardware. This is the recommended path when:
- The digital license is Retail and bound to the Microsoft account, but
- The troubleshooter cannot complete reactivation after a hardware change.
- If a valid product key is available
- In Settings > System > Activation, select Change product key and re-enter the key as a new product key.
- Let Windows attempt online activation again.
If none of the above resolves the issue, activation by phone or direct Microsoft support intervention is typically required to reassign the existing digital Retail license to the new hardware.
