Restart your computer and then run an Online Repair; see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b .

Note that an Online Repar includes a reinstall of Office. Therefore, before you begin, you should make sure that you can access your account at https://account.microsoft.com/services and that Office is associated with it.

    Hi! Let me help you.

Does Word open at all before the error appears?

Or does it crash immediately on launch?

Instead of the broken repair button inside Word:

    Open:

Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features

    Select:

    Microsoft Office

    Click:

    Change

    Choose:

    First: Quick Repair

If that fails: Online Repair (stronger fix)

Follow these steps to fix the recurring Word error when the built‑in “Repair now” fails:

    1. Close all Office apps
      • Make sure Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. are all closed.
    2. Run an Online Repair from Windows Settings
      1. Open Start > Settings.
      2. Go to System > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features, depending on Windows version).
      3. Find the Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 installation in the list.
      4. Select it, choose Modify (or Change).
      5. Select Online Repair, then choose Repair and let it complete.
This performs a deeper repair than the in‑app “Repair now” and often reinstalls Office components that are corrupted.
    3. If Online Repair does not resolve it
      • Uninstall Office from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Restart the PC (use Restart, not just Shut down).
      • Reinstall Office from the Microsoft account services page where the subscription or product is listed.

After the repair or reinstall, start Word again and confirm it opens without the error.
