Try these steps in order to fix Excel not opening on Windows:

1. Close all Office apps.
2. Repair Office installation:
   1. Open Windows Settings.
   2. Go to Apps → Installed apps (or Apps & features).
   3. Find Microsoft 365 (or Office), select Modify.
   4. Choose Online Repair, then confirm and let it complete. This fully reinstalls Office components.
   5. Restart the computer and try opening Excel again.

If Excel opens but shows only a blank screen when opening files, run the same Online Repair as above; this is the recommended fix when Excel opens to a blank screen.

If Excel still cannot open files and shows messages about file format, corruption, or extension problems, follow the guidance in Repairing a corrupted workbook from the “Open a document after a file corruption error” article to try to recover the affected workbook.

If none of these steps help, contact Microsoft Support for further repair or a complete removal/reinstall of Office using their advanced tools.
