Restart your computer, and then run an Online Repair of Office. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b .

Note that an Online Repair usually includes a reinstall of Office. Therefore, you should make sure, before you start, that you can access your account at https://account.microsoft.com/services and that your Office product is associated with it.

The error indicates the Office installation is damaged or corrupted. The built‑in “Repair now” from the error dialog often does not fully fix it. Use an Online Repair of Office instead, and if needed, reinstall Office.

    Follow these steps on Windows:

    1. Close Word and all other Office apps.
    2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features).
    3. Find the Microsoft 365/Office product in the list.
    4. Select it, choose Modify.
    5. Select Online Repair, then Repair and let it complete.

If Word still crashes after Online Repair:

    1. Uninstall Office from Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Programs and Features).
    2. Restart the PC (use Restart, not just Shut down).
    3. Reinstall Office from the Microsoft account services page where the subscription/product is listed.

If the problem persists even after a full reinstall, check for problematic add‑ins by starting Word in Safe Mode and disabling add‑ins, as older add‑ins are known to cause crashes.
