I have tried numerous to change the payment method on the account. Your system will not accept it. I called the bank it is a valid account. You continue to try to charge an older credit card that was on file. I have tried over and over to enter the new one. Your system will not allow me to delete the older card that is no longer valid.

    Greetings!

This is Tin, sorry to hear that you're unable to add your payment instrument to your account for you to pay for your subscription. Have you tried to use other browser and check if the issue persists? Or how about clearing cache and cookies? To do that, please press CTRL +SHIFT +DEL then choose the Cache also Cookies, then hit Clear Now. If the issue persists, please try to use other device. And if it's still the same, kindly reach MS Accounts & Billing to check this:

    Kindly open this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/

Ensure that your MS Account has been signed in

Type "Chat with an agent" and hit Enter.

    Please click the "Contact support"

Please select the "Products and services"

Please follow the prompts to connect with a live agent.

You may also choose the "Call me back" option if you prefer to receive a call.

Once you're connected to the Live Agent, please let them know about your issue so they could check your account and address your concern.

    Thank you,

    Christine

To stop charges to the old card and get the new one working, two things are required:

    1. Update or replace the payment method on the subscription.
    2. Then delete the old payment method (only after it is no longer in use and there is no outstanding balance).

For Microsoft 365 (home) subscriptions, the key points from the guidance are:

    1. A card that is still tied to an active subscription or an outstanding balance cannot be removed.
    2. The system will keep charging the payment method that is currently associated with the subscription until the subscription is moved to a different payment method.

    Follow this sequence:

    1. Add or fix the new card
      • Go to the Microsoft 365 account/admin area as described in the payment-method article.
      • Add the new credit/debit card as a payment method.
      • Make sure the name, billing address (including city, state, ZIP/postcode), and expiration date exactly match the bank’s records. If any of these differ, the card can be rejected even if the bank says it is valid.
      • If the card was renewed with the same number, update only the expiration date, billing address, and name; the card number itself cannot be changed on an existing method.
    2. Move the subscription off the old card
      • In the subscription/billing area, change the payment method for the subscription so that it uses the new card instead of the old one.
      • This step is required before the old card can be deleted.
    3. Delete the old card
      • After the subscription is successfully using the new card and there is no outstanding balance on the old payment method, delete the old card.
      • If the system still refuses to delete it, it usually means either:
        • There is still an outstanding balance on that payment method, or
        • The subscription is still associated with it somewhere (for example, another product or service).
    4. If the portal still will not accept the new card
      • Confirm the card is issued in the same country/region as the Microsoft account/tenant.
      • If the bank confirms the card is valid and not blocking Microsoft transactions and the details are correct, the guidance is to contact Microsoft support directly so they can review the billing profile and fix the stuck payment method.

Because community and self-service tools cannot see or change account-level billing data, any persistent inability to switch/delete the card must be handled by Microsoft Billing Support.
