The AI answer is comprehensive. If a hyperlink is active, you should get a popup when you mouse over it that says "CTRL + click to follow link." If you do see this, then press CTRL and click. If you don't, then you must restore the hyperlink as instructed by the AI.

Hyperlinks in Word, Excel, and Access can stop working for several reasons, but they can usually be repaired or recreated directly in each document.

Use the following checks and fixes in each app:

    1. Confirm the links are real hyperlinks
In Word and Excel, text can look like a link (blue and underlined) but not actually be a hyperlink.
      • Right‑click the text. If the menu shows Edit Hyperlink or Remove Hyperlink, it is a hyperlink.
      • If not, recreate it:
        • Select the text.
        • Insert a new hyperlink (for example, in Word/Excel: Insert > Hyperlink).
        • In Address, type or paste the correct path/URL and select OK.
    2. Reset or correct broken hyperlinks
If the target file was moved/renamed, the hyperlink path must be updated.
      • In Word:
        1. Right‑click the hyperlink and select Edit Hyperlink.
        2. In Look in, browse to the correct file, or type the correct path/URL in Address.
        3. Select OK.
      • In Excel (hyperlinks in cells):
        1. Right‑click the cell and select Edit Hyperlink.
        2. Correct the Address and select OK.
    3. Fix hyperlinks that were damaged by sorting or editing (Excel)
If hyperlinks stopped working after sorting or copying/pasting cells:
      • For cells where the link is gone but text remains:
        1. Select the cell.
        2. Use Insert > Hyperlink (or Hyperlink on the Insert menu in older versions).
        3. Type the correct address in Address and select OK.
      • For cells where the link points to the wrong place:
        1. Right‑click the cell and select Edit Hyperlink.
        2. Correct the Address and select OK.
    4. Turn automatic hyperlink creation back on (if needed)
If new links are not being created automatically when typing addresses:
      • In Word or Excel:
        1. Go to File > Options > Proofing.
        2. Select AutoCorrect Options.
        3. On AutoFormat As You Type, ensure Internet and network paths with hyperlinks is checked.
    5. Remove and recreate problematic hyperlinks
If a specific link is corrupted:
      • Right‑click the hyperlink and choose Remove Hyperlink.
      • Then recreate it using Insert > Hyperlink and entering the correct address.

If hyperlinks work when exported to PDF but not inside Word/Excel/Access, focus on verifying that each in‑document link is correctly defined (steps 1–3) and not just formatted text.
