For a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, the billing currency cannot be changed on the existing active subscription. Microsoft 365 subscriptions are tied to the country/region where they were originally purchased.

To pay in South African Rand, use this path:

    1. Turn off recurring billing or cancel the current Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.
    2. Wait for the subscription to expire fully.
    3. Update the Microsoft account country/region to South Africa.
    4. Purchase a new Microsoft 365 Personal subscription using South Africa billing details and payment method.

    Important details:

    • Changing the billing address applies only to new purchases.
    • Existing active subscriptions continue using the previous billing country/region and currency.
    • Using the same Microsoft account does not cause data loss, based on the guidance in the referenced Q&A.
