The touchpad on my Cepter PC stopped working after a Windows update. There seems to be no icon and no driver to update or activate. I tried the PC in Linux and that works fine with the touchpad. Do i download some generic driver or what?

    Hi Torben Nielsen,

Since you've already established that the touchpad works in Linux, you've done a useful test that helps narrow this down.

As a next step, check the BIOS/UEFI for a setting such as Touchpad, Internal Pointing Device, or I2C and make sure it is enabled. If everything there looks correct but the touchpad remains missing from Windows Device Manager, I'd recommend asking Cepter support for the exact Windows I2C/Serial IO and touchpad driver package for your model.

This would be preferable to experimenting with generic touchpad drivers. I hope this helps move the troubleshooting forward.

    Hi ,

Search for msinfo32.exe in the search bar, take a screenshot, and post it here so we can see the correct laptop model or desktop configuration.

Access the Device Manager, take a screenshot, and post it here.

    Thanks

Do not install a generic touchpad driver first.

Since the touchpad works in Linux, the hardware is likely fine. In Windows, this usually points to a missing, outdated, or corrupted touchpad driver.

    Recommended path:

    1. Run Windows Update first.
      • In the taskbar search box, type check for updates.
      • Select Check for updates.
      • Install all available updates.
      • If optional updates are offered, install those as well.
      • Restart the PC.
    2. Check Device Manager for the touchpad.
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Look under:
        • Human Interface Devices
        • Mice and other pointing devices
      • If the touchpad appears, try updating or reinstalling that device driver.
    3. If the touchpad is missing from Device Manager, scan for hardware changes.
      • In Device Manager, use Action > Scan for hardware changes.
      • Restart the PC and check again.
    4. If Windows still does not show the touchpad correctly, install the PC maker’s driver for the exact Cepter model.
      • For touchpad issues where Windows falls back to basic mouse behavior or the touchpad is not detected properly, the accepted guidance is to install the laptop manufacturer’s chipset or Serial-IO driver first if available for the model, then install the touchpad driver, and restart after each installation.
      • This is preferable to using a generic driver.
    5. If updating or reinstalling the driver in Device Manager does not help, contact the device manufacturer.

A generic driver is not the recommended option in the provided guidance. The supported approach is Windows Update, Device Manager update/reinstall, and then the manufacturer’s exact driver package for the device model.
