Licensing update for Teams Premium and Teams Enterprise

As of April 1, 2026, some features that were previously only available with Teams Premium are now included with Teams Enterprise. Teams Premium continues to offer advanced meeting protection, advanced communication (like the Queues app), branding and personalization, and intelligence capabilities. Learn more.

Customers who purchased Teams Premium licenses before April 1, 2026 will continue to have access to all the previously included Teams Premium features and product experiences included with these licenses until they expire.

To manage Teams Premium features, your tenant must have at least one active Teams Premium license.

This article provides an overview of Microsoft Teams events licensing. It describes Teams events capabilities by license and summarizes the April 1, 2026 licensing changes that moved event features previously included in Teams Premium to Teams Enterprise.

Teams events capabilities by license

All eligible Teams licenses include the foundational capabilities needed to create and run events, engage attendees, review attendance reports, and publish event recordings.

Event capabilities and attendee capacity vary based on the organizer's license. For Teams events, licenses fall into two categories:

• Foundational event features: These licenses provide the foundational capabilities required to create and run events.
• Advanced event features: These licenses provide the full Teams events feature set. They include the foundational capabilities plus advanced features such as event workflows, customization, production controls, monitoring, insights, and higher engagement event capacity.

The following table lists licenses based on these categories.

Note

As part of the April 2026 licensing changes, event features that were previously part of Teams Premium moved to Teams Enterprise. Teams Premium licenses purchased after April 2026 don't directly provide access to these capabilities. To access the full set of Teams events features, users must have a license from the Advanced event features category.

Feature availability

The following tables list the event capabilities available to organizers based on their license.

Foundational event features

Organizers can create and host events with up to 1,000 attendees using the following foundational event capabilities. They can also host events for up to 10,000 attendees in a view-only experience (with Q&A).

Advanced event features

Organizers with a license in the Advanced event features category have all foundational event capabilities plus the following advanced event features.

Some of these features are currently rolling out to Teams Enterprise and might not be available in your organization yet.

The availability of certain features depends on event capacity. For more information, see Meetings and events feature and capacity comparison.

Note

Organizers with an active Teams Premium license purchased before April 1, 2026, can continue to host events for up to 100,000 attendees until their current Teams Premium term ends.

After April 1, 2026, when your Teams Premium term expires, events with capabilities to engage with audiences that have more than 3,000 attendees and view-only events with more than 10,000 attendees require an Attendee Capacity Pack sized to the desired attendee capacity. To avoid disruption to large events, plan to purchase the appropriate attendee pack in advance.

The following table outlines Teams events limits by license.

To host events with more than 3,000 attendees, organizations must purchase Attendee Capacity Pack add-on licenses and assign them to organizers. Attendee packs enable events with up to 100,000 attendees.

Service protection

Microsoft reserves the right to enforce email one-time passcode (eOTP) verification for external event participants to protect service health and guard against fraud or abuse. eOTP enforcement is a service protection measure, not a licensed capability, and isn't tied to a specific SKU tier.
