- Open the Development Environment. Open an existing solution, or use File, New to create a workflow project. The solution, along with any of its projects and existing workflow processes, is displayed in the Solution Explorer.
- Double click the workflow process from the Solution Explorer.
Use the Workflow Design Surface to do the following:
- Change the look of the diagram.
- Zoom or crop the diagram.
- Print the workflow diagram.
Changing the Look of the Diagram
If you want to change the look of the diagram, you can rearrange the state shapes and transition lines.
To rearrange states
- Drag each state to the desired location in the diagram.
After rearranging the states, the diagram might become cluttered with overlapping lines or irregular spacing.
To arrange the diagram
From the Format menu, select Arrange Diagram, and then select Horizontal or Vertical. In addition, you can right-click the design surface.
Horizontal will arrange the diagram from left to right, according to the algorithm. Vertical will arrange the diagram from top to bottom, according to the algorithm.
Zooming the Diagram
If you want to zoom in to see more detail or zoom out to see the full diagram, you can enlarge the entire diagram or shrink it to fit the Design Surface, so all the items are visible on the design surface.
To zoom to a specific size
- Right-click the design surface and select Zoom.
- In the Zoom dialog box, select the zoom size between 10% and 200%

From the File menu, choose Print.
In the Print dialog box, click Print.
