Create your first topic

Completed

After you've created your group, you need topics!

A Flip topic is the discussion prompt—a question, idea, activity—anything you want your community to discuss! You can create as many topics as you want, so there's no limit to the communities you can engage.

Topic details and essentials

Within your topic, you need to enter only a few essentials to get started:

  • Title - What is the lesson about? This can be an idea or question to be discussed.
  • Description - An engaging description of what you want your students to discuss, share, ask... The description is optional, but a great way to further explain what you would like your students to be doing.
  • Topic media - A focus to guide the conversation. You can record, upload, or link a video, attach a photo, Giphy, or emoji, or even a file or activity from another app.
  • Recording time - The time limit you set for your students' videos. This ranges from 15 seconds up to 10 minutes.
  • Attachments - Add up to nine links to add additional scaffolding for your students.

You need these fields to launch your first topic! In addition to these options, under the settings tab, there are a series of fields and toggles to make your topic even more powerful and aligned to the needs of your learners. These include video moderation, closed captioning, and additional camera and video features. If you want to get going quickly, complete those first few details and select Post topic. When you have time, take a moment to explore the other features to see how you can make your topics your own!

Share with your community

After creating your topic, you only need to share the unique join code by copying and pasting the link wherever your community connects or via one of the share buttons. You can share via a QR code, an embed code, share to Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, Remind, or X (formerly Twitter).
