When configuring and managing your resource dependencies, it is important to understand how the system handles any changes you make to the network name dependency and to the location of the DTC log.

Changing the Dependency on Network Name

The network name is the name that an instance of the DTC running outside of the cluster communicates to the DTC resource running on the cluster. The network name for a DTC resource is stored in the DTC log file as a way to resolve any in-doubt transactions pertaining to the DTC cluster resource. Because the network name is stored in the DTC log file, it is recommended that you do not change the dependency on the network name. However, if you need to change the dependency, you should first verify that there are no in-doubt transactions pertaining to the cluster.

Moving the DTC Log File

You can move the log file in a clustered environment by using the standard DTC user interface available within Component Services. If the log file is moved to a different location on the same shared disk, the existing physical disk dependency is retained. If the log file is moved to another disk, the DTC automatically creates a dependency on the new shared disk and removes the dependency on the old disk.
