Ovládací DataGridView prvek zobrazí své buňky pomocí stylů označených vlastností buňky InheritedStyle , která dědí styly z jiných vlastností typu DataGridViewCellStyle. U buněk v tomto řádku jsou styly zadané prostřednictvím DefaultCellStyle vlastnosti přepsány styly zadané prostřednictvím DataGridView.DefaultCellStyle, DataGridViewColumn.DefaultCellStyle, DataGridView.RowsDefaultCellStylea DataGridView.AlternatingRowsDefaultCellStyle vlastnosti, ale jsou přepsány styly zadanými prostřednictvím DataGridViewCell.Style vlastnosti.
