Question

I want to discontinue my Microsoft Office 365 and subscribe to Microsoft Basic. Please advise.

To move from Microsoft 365 (Office 365) to Microsoft 365 Basic, first cancel or change the current subscription, then choose the new plan.

1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page for Microsoft 365:
   • https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365
   • Sign in with the same Microsoft account used to purchase the current Microsoft 365 subscription.
2. Cancel or stop renewal of the current subscription:
   • Find the existing Microsoft 365 subscription under Services & subscriptions.
   • Select Manage.
   • If you see Cancel subscription (or Upgrade or Cancel), select it and follow the prompts to cancel.
   • If instead you see Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not renew; no further action is needed to stop billing.
3. Be aware of storage and data impact when cancelling:
   • After cancelling Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium, the storage allowance reverts to 5 GB of cloud storage (shared by OneDrive and Outlook.com attachments) and 15 GB of Outlook.com mailbox storage.
   • If more than the free allowance is in use:
     • Uploading, editing, or syncing new files to OneDrive will not be possible.
     • Sending or receiving email in Outlook.com will not be possible.
     • After a grace period (typically several months), OneDrive and its files may be deleted.
   • Before cancelling, back up or reduce stored data (OneDrive files and Outlook.com mailbox) below the free limits.
4. Subscribe to Microsoft 365 Basic:
   • After cancelling or letting the current subscription run to its end date, choose Microsoft 365 Basic from the Microsoft 365 plans page and purchase it with the same Microsoft account.
   • If the current subscription was purchased through a third-party billing partner (Apple App Store, Google Play, or a retailer), manage cancellation and any plan changes through that partner’s subscription management, as they may control switching options.
5. If a refund is needed:
   • For subscriptions purchased from Microsoft, cancellation is required first; then refund eligibility depends on region and policy. Details are in the Microsoft Store Terms of Sale and in the refund guidance.
