I have a BSOD on Windows 10 2004 wpprecorder.sys

I have a BSOD after last updates on Win 10 2004. BSOD is System thread exception not handled and wpprecorder.sys. It happens on few laptops and two PC with different hardware. System restore didn’t help.
System reboots after 3-5 minutes logon.
How we can resolve it?

I have the same issue in many machines and try to resolve.
I discover that the problem is with Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME) driver and if you are conect to the internet the Windows update start to download updates and cause a BSOD. So do not conect to internet until you do the driver update.

The solution:

1 - Do not connect to internet!
2 - Reinstall Windows 10 if you can not boot anymore.
3 - Download the lastest Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME) driver in another computer: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28679/-Windows-8-1-Windows-10-Intel-?product=69368 and copy in a pendrive.
4 - Install the driver \ME_SW_1909.12.0.1236\Cons\MEI-Only Installer MSI\MEISetup.exe in the afected computer and restart Windows.
5 - Conect the internet
6 - Done.

Hello everyone.
I haved same problem.

And this error too.
ーc:\windows\system32\drivers\1394ohci.sys : access denied.

In my case, it was caused by software device.
I stopped it and sloved.

I tryed.

・Changed mouse port.
・Removed the latest patches.
・Run the compact.exe/u
・I set the clock manually.Because my environment is vpn.

The software device name is Microsoftgswavetablesync.

I hope it will be helpful.
I thought it was a common problem because everyone wrote it here.

2 - If you can not boot anymore, you can try press the power button and when the Windows logo apear, rapidilly force a shutdown by press and hold for 7 seconds the power button. Repeat the process until the logo apear with a message like repairing. This force Windows to uninstall the last Windows update.
Or reinstall Windows 10.
3 - Download the lastest Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME) driver in another computer: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28679/-Windows-8-1-Windows-10-Intel-?product=69368 and copy in a pendrive.

I had this issue as well, however installing the latest driver only worked temporarily. It got to where it wouldn’t boot past the login screen before blue screening. I checked my bios and I was able to disable the management engine until next power cycle and I was able to complete my update and overcome this issue. Not all bios will have this ability but it’s worth a look for those still struggling after following the initial instructions.

Hi there.

Had the same problem last week.

Was told temporary solution is to disable Windows Update service (via services.msc) and use the drive cleanup tool to delete the Windows Update Cleanup (need to choose clean system files).

It seems to only affect 32bit versions.

Lets see how long Microsoft takes to fix this latest Windows Update screwup.

Disabling the update service and executing the update cleanup worked wonders for me :)

Everything seems fine now - I will just skip on updates the next few months or so, till this is fixed ;-)

Same problem. I've installed the last build of Windows 10 (32 bit) and still having the same problem. BSOD WppRecorder.sys.
This happens as soon as I connect on Internet.

The solution, if you don't have another computer to download the driver:

1 - Reinstall Windows 10 32 bits.
2 - Do not connect to internet!
3 - Open device manager and disable "PCI Simple Communications Controller"
4 - Restart Windows.
5 - Download the lastest Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME) driver and install:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28679/-Windows-8-1-Windows-10-Intel-?product=69368
6 - Done.

Thanks, I had this problem for days!
I tried installing the latest driver, but the problem still persists (it got a little better though)

is it really necessary to install Windows 10?
I would prefer not having to reinstall the complete machine from the ground up...

Unfortunately uninstalling 2004 does not work (sources missing) and doing a clean upgrade installation via USB does not work too (upgrade only possible while running IN windows)

In my case (fresh install 20H2 on 365 board with I3-9100) your solution did not work entirely,
I had to install OS without Internet connection, install MEI driver still out of internet then disable "Intel management Engine Interface" on the device manager and then connect to internet to do all the updates correctly.

I have same problem after update to 2009 - only on x86 system. wpprecorder.sys.
I try JasonC answer with no luck.. I try that command with admin rights but failed to uncompressed- no access to file.
some tip?

Hi, I have 2 separate customers with the same issue.

Steps i took:
1. Open command prompt (As Administrator) and type: 2. C:\Windows\System32\compact.exe /U C:\Windows\System32\drivers\*.sys
2. Reboot
3. open comand prompt (As Administrator) and type: fsutil behavior set DisableCompression 1
4. Reboot However this seems to be for a previous instance of the WPPRecorder.sys error.
  So i tried :
5. Perform system restore (prior to last cumulative)
6. Reboot and open command prompt (As Administrator)
7. Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
8. sfc /scannow
9. Install any driver updates via Windows Update Options Updates.
10. Restart
11. Install All updates
12. Install 20H2 Update System no longer blue screens.

and it give me the same error over and over, both in safe mode, normal mode or the cmd from recovery mode.

Try removing last 3 updates via control panel > programs, then remove your mouse device in settings, shutdown. Important to go via control panel.
Restart.

Plug mouse into different usb port.

Updates reinstall automatically.
System resolves?
