I have a deployment of 7 2016 RDSH servers.
After installing KB4586830 Microsoft Print to PDF and Microsoft XPS Write stops working.
If I uninstall KB4586830 it fixes the issue.

Does anyone have a solution other than uninstalling the security patches?

We had removed the updates from the server. about 2 weeks ago an update installed to our windows 10 workstations that broke this again. After testing, I found that Remote pdf printing now works if both the servers and workstations are updated. NOTE: our configuration is a little different. We are running windows server 2012 R2 (Now with all the latest updates) and Windows 10 1909 or windows 10 20h2 with all the latest updates.

Another Month, another superseding update (actually two) with no resolution.
This marks the 5th month our 22 RDSHs go without a Security patch.

To summarise what we know so far:

KB4586830 Released November 2020 causes Microsoft Print to PDF to cease to function on Server 2016 which causes issue for users whom whilst using Remote Desktop Service Hosts, rely on the function for their work.
The error "Word cannot print due to a problem with the printer setup." is received when printing to Microsoft Print to PDF from Microsoft Word.
Office 365 for Business, auto-updating with "No available updates" on January: Version 2012 (Build 13628.20274).

The following Superseding updates also sustain this fault:
2020-11 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4594441)
2020-12 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4593226)
2021-01 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4598243)
2021-02 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4601318)
2021-03 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5000803)
2021-03 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5001633)

I have just completed testing of (KB5001633) to confirm that the Print to PDF issue is still yet to be resolved.
Removing all of these patches resumes Print to PDF functionality immediately.

Just a little update that may help us collectively troubleshoot this. I am almost certain that this is due to a WSUS database corruption on the effected systems. I am getting WSUS errors when running the troubleshooter on the effected machine and not on our others. When you attempt to resolve the issue with the troubleshooter, it fails to resolve the error. Have pursued a DISM health restore, deleted the contents of software distribution folders, and reset and reauthorized the WSUS communication without success. If anyone else can verify that their effected machines have this error, we might be able to find a way around the issue (with the help of someone smarter than myself haha). As of right now, this is still a totally random and insanely frustrating problem for those managing and supporting remote work environments.
