Disk Optimization IS NOT Running Automatically Properly

Eddie, recall my stressing the importance of showing last run date in thread for disk optimization. Not positive if this started with 19042.508 /546

First noticed this in my main system last week running 20H2 (non-insider). Disk Optimization is not running automatically, had about 13 days showing last run, settings are at default to run weekly. Did a manual run back last week.

This snapshot is from a virtual machine 20H2 that I test software on daily. Both devices are kept current with builds.

This snapshot is from my main system today. Have to give it couple more days to verify and will file a FBH report at that time and update this thread. Please advise if there is anything else I can add with FBH report.

If I understand this correctly, does Optimization only trim once per 30 days or is it actually going to do a defrag (continuous files). That part was really not clear:

    Defrag

    Regards,

Let me confirm with the Dev.

Also on the VM you shared a screenshot on in your OP, can you file the feedback from that device as well and include the Application event log (you may have to manually save and attach it.) We'd like to confirm what occurred on that device.

And one more thing can you enable Task Scheduler history on the VM?

    Hi Eddie,

Did you get clarification of the 30 day cycle regarding SSD of Trim vs Defrag (continuous files). One would assume it would run Trim, the Document you posted that was revised leaves doubt on this.

At one time, used Speed Disk (Norton) every few months to run Defrag just for the continuous files rather than Trim on SSD. There was a slight noticeable speed improvement overall.

    Regards,

Try out today's build. Looks like there are some changes that were made based on feedback. Retrim should now run every time the task is run (weekly by default). It should help with updating the timestamp.

Full defrag only runs once a month. Let me know if this clears things up.

Appreciate the response Eddie. This would only be with today's Dev build. Will try setting it daily and monitor.

To clarify, Trim will run weekly (default) and Defrag monthly (continuous files). Not positive on how to verify Defrag. Would this show in Task Scheduler for the two types?

Assume this will take time to trickle down to Beta, RP and Release. Are you authorized for a time frame or unknown at this point.

Not 100% sure on if it will show in Task Scheduler. Haven't had a chance to do any testing of it. As for timeframes, I don't have anything to share. Sorry.

    In response to Eddie:

Eddie, It seems to be working now, but if you customize your settings, then when you try to get in to look at it, you get this message in the dialog box below. If you click ""Keep customized settings'' the dialog box goes away, but it does not take you into the Optimize app. If you click "Remove customized settings" it takes you there, but you have to redo your settings. I hope they fix the "Keep customized settings, so I don't have to redo the settings every time I want to check it. Also, it wasn't really correct about another program creating the customized settings, it was me going into the app and setting up my settings. I didn't' want to modify anything, I just wanted to look to make sure it was running properly.  Thanks.
