windows update (KB5004237) failing to install

I have tried downloading the update many times after I install the update and restart my pc after it passes 97% and moves to 98% I face an error saying "We Couldn’t Complete The Updates Undoing Changes" and after it's done restarting my pc I face the error " 0x800f0922 " its also saying " Your device is missing important security and quality fixes.".

This is what I have... Thing keeps failing to install the update.
Can't install it, can't stop it. Stupid Update Medic service... Re-enables things...

Same issue here.

KB5004237 and the earlier KB5004476 both repeatedly try to install, then fail at about 98% and roll back the changes.

It's very annoying and I'm starting to get worried that I won't be able to upgrade this machine to Windows 11 when the time comes.

Same issue with KB5004237 and with KB5004945 previously, both with error 0x800f0922. Tried all the fixes and workarounds with no success. It's worisome having to pause all of these critical updates...

I'd like to add and say that I am also having this issue. As of today, I have spent several hours trying to get the update to roll through. I am always left with the same issue addressed above. Weirdly the same with it just barely passing 97% before deciding to not complete and undo the changes. I am glad to hear that this issue has also popped up for others but concerned that there isn't quite an answer out there yet.

Hi John I have exactly the same problem with the 2 updates that you are having problems with installing, KB5004237 and with KB5004945 , Microsoft tech support is useless and is all just online, I called my HP tech support and they couldn't work it out either. Microsoft needs to rectify these issues asap, Let me know if you find a solution that we don't have to be a computer technician to work out Thanks

We are at MS' mercy on this. As noted in other replies, you should use the Feedback Hub and search for the two KBs in question and upvote the ones you find. Once it reaches some magical threshold, MS may deign to act on it. Otherwise if they feel this is a niche problem, we'll be postponing updates for some time until they get around to fixing.

1st go to windows update catalog,download/save as,save to a folder.Once thru,R.click on cmd,,run as Administrator,in cmd type: services.msc in msc,scroll to Windows installer,double click,set to Auto start,start service,exit scroll to windows module,do same,exit msc,exit cmd,R.click on the download,run as administrator.If it fails,open control panel,administrator tools,event viewer,windows logs,expand,locate the date/time of the failure/properties/see what the os says../

Bitlocker has been disabled from the get-go when I first installed Win10. And confirmed still disabled when applying the updates. Good that it worked for you but Bitlocker is not the cause of why the updates failed for me.

The logs showed no errors, only Info messages. MSInstaller executed without issue. A reboot and then more MSInstaller, guessing that would be the rollback and then another reboot before standard Windows startup.

I've had this problem last for a while and I figured the one and only best solution is to reinstall windows. What I would do is back up any important things that you want to be saved such as photos and other data, then reinstall. I followed this youtube video which saved some things which were nice! Hopefully, this works for other people.

MS re-rolled out KB4023057. They periodically do this to address issues with Windows updates not working. Sad if this is MS' answer to all these reported cases. Note that you won't find this KB in the WU catalog for current Windows versions like 21h1 like I have; it's meant for older versions of Windows. So you have to let Windows Update to run.

Windows update happily applied 4023057 (again) but KB5004237 and KB5004945 still didn't install. Yay more time wasted.

Addendum: I read that enabling Fast Start (Windows Power options) will sometime cause Windows Update to complete because of failing to login. However disabling Fast Start didn't allow the updates to complete.

As noted by others, clearing the software components and restore their software components did not work. Disabling services and apps didn't work.

The Media Creation tool doesn't allow me to do a full re-install, it only upgrades Windows. The upgrading also fails on reboot. The same MO, manual install of the update woks, whether by MSU or DISM or Media Creation tool, but after rebooting, it gets to 97-98% and then says it fails and starts to rollback. The portion that needs to be installed at Windows boot is the part that is failing.

Reset bios work for me.
On ryzen 5000 with some OC settings

After many test, something wrong with PBO / Curve optimiser + RAM OC when Windows boot
(work perfectly before for months)

So i cant OC now
if i apply some PBO settings > immediate BSOD and restart to rolleback (i just push reset button)

No OC settings just XMP / SAM work fine for 3 days now
