PowerPoint now supports selecting multiple object on a slide!
You have to press and hold an object with one finger and then tap other objects with another finger.
Problem solved!!!!

Selecting multiple objects is currently not supported in PowerPoint for iPad.
If a set of items is already grouped (using a different client like PowerPoint for Windows/Mac), you can move those objects as a group on the iPad.
Thanks for the feedback, and let us know if there is anything else you would like to see improved!
Something to keep in mind:
Office will be updated far more often than we're used to seeing on previous desktop versions.
In just the last couple of months, some major features have been added.
Keep up the good feedback, especially if it includes explanations of WHY a feature is important to you and the pain that NOT having it causes you.

I just wanted to add my two cents worth of agreement regarding this select, copy, paste restriction being discussed. I needed to create a PowerPoint presentation tonight and had fully intended to use my iPad to do that since I have had the paid 0365 subscription for a while. When I tried to select a group of objects and realized I couldn't it surprised me that I couldn't figure out how to do it and I was convinced it must be possible so I searched Microsoft.com and found this trail. Let's just say that I immediately went and got my laptop and use the full version of 0365 to complete the work I needed to do and put the iPad away. I suppose that says enough. I'd really appreciate it if this can get resolved quickly. It is definitely a must-have not a nice to have. Thanks very much!
Microsoft, please speed up development. I am almost completely PC free. All I need are some of these fundamental basics that made Office the king of the crop in the 90's!
