Yes, this is exactly the same solution as was proposed earlier in this thread.
However, to remind everyone, this is not the "right" solution, or the way it has to be.

Hi Jimofh
I have the similar problem as you.... Cannot delete word or Excel files on my Google pixel 2 phone.... Particularly if they end in .docx
I see your post was a few years ago but by chance could you reply if you found a conclusion on how to bypass the permission settings to be able to delete word and Excel files from your Android device?
Any guidance on deleting word Excel or PowerPoint files from Android Google pixel 2 phone would be most welcome
If you like to reply directly to my Gmail that may be best. ******@gmail.com
Thank you in advance for your guidance

Check a couple of messages before your post - there is a "solution". A bad one, but still a solution.
I figured out how to delete files from word. Go to settings, then scroll to app permissions and then scroll to word and click then click clear data. Boom you're done
Yet again - read a few messages before.
This "solution" was already posted. And even though this does actually remove the files, but it also clears your preferences and login information. This is not the way it should be.
