I would like to delete a few data files from my phone but my phone will not let me. Can you help. There is no longer any reason to keep some of them.

In spite of the incredibly frustrating responses from these techs -- who appear to not thoroughly look at the informative pleas for help by repeatedly asking questions already answered in the inquiry...

I have found an amazingly Simple solution!!....

Go to Settings > device maintenance > storage > documents > select (all pdf and others you don't want) > delete.

That's it!! So simple!! Less than 2 minutes!  Done!!

.... and I am a 55 yr old country bumpkin with absolutely NO computer or tech training!!!

Oh my gosh. This has plagued me for a year and I finally decided to search for solutions. THANK YOU. I cannot believe a customer support tech couldn't have given this simple solution. Thank you so much, Christian B-T. We sound very similar. I am a 52 yr old mom who manages the phone IT issues for our family.

This actually worked or me. I had the option to hit FORCE STOP, not DISABLE. I did that. Closed SETTINGS. Closed Word. Reopened Word and it worked!
