Thank you very much for your solution. Such a relief to finally sort this issue where all other "solutions" failed.

On my pixel phone, there is not selection for Device Maintenance....but there is one for Storage.

The process worked on about 80% of the files I wanted to delete individually out of my Documents file.  Some items still remain there.  I will have to poke around on other areas of Storage to see I can locate the files....they may be in Download, DCMI or pictures.

Thanks for the advise though....Wish Microsoft could have offered up this path over 2 years ago of agita!   Google tech support wasn't helpful either, after two hours on the phone with Google support they said it was my phone and sent me a New Phone to transfer my content too .....that didn't work either.  (had to return the old phone:)

    Thanks again.

The only way I have found out to do it is to go into Word, go to settings and then reset.  It erases all documents, which is annoying if you only want to erase certain ones.

I've had this problem for quite a while
Reset worked yes it might have deleted a few files but its certainly got rid of the ones I didn't want
after reset it retrieved the wanted files back from my one drive and all good

All I will say is why cant MS cure the permissions issue
probably by saving the files in a place thats not root protected

(As stated , its only the files opened from emails that gets auto saved there and not the user created ones)
