Sharepoint uploading to the wrong folder

A user is reporting a strange issue. When uploading files to a SharePoint folder via drag and drop in their browser, the files sometimes upload to a different folder instead. For instance, despite dragging the documents into the folder "M-sheets", they are instead uploaded to "A-DWGs". I'm attaching an image showing the issue sent to me by the affected user. This is not the first time they have run into this issue, but I cant seem to replicate it on another computer. If it matters, the folder that the files are actually being uploaded to is a sub-folder of the same folder that M-Sheets" is a sub-folder of.

    Hi MimetusSapien,

I’m glad to be here and share my suggestion with you.

Based on your description, I tested at our end and didn’t have the similar issue as yours. I created folders as yours which the M.Sheets and A-DWGs are subfolders under Fabric. When I drag the image to M.Sheets folder, they will be uploaded in this folder. What your colleague are encountering is a really weird behavior.

To narrow down this issue, we suggest your colleague try these troubleshooting steps and see the result:

    1. Try to change a new browser like Chrome and drag images into M.Sheets folder to see if the issue happen in different browser.
    2. Clean cache in browser and to see if the issue happened again.
    3. Try to change another folder under Fabric and drag images in this folder. To check if this issue only happened to specific folder.
    4. Try to change another Document library and drag images again to see if the issue only happens to specific library.

I noticed that this issue only happens to one user and only happens to the specific computer. If he can’t reproduce this issue after he clean browser’s cache and change another browser, this issue maybe not related to your SharePoint site.

    Regards,

    Ivy

I can confirm that my organization is experiencing the identical issue as @MimetusSapien describes here. This seems to have started in the last 30-60 days.

    Dear M1Marin,

As similar issue may have different symptoms, to clarify the detailed symptom of the issue you are experiencing, I’d like you to confirm whether the following is what you are experiencing in your environment.

    1. Create two folders “A-DWGs” and “M-Sheets” and create a subfolder “M-Sheets” in “M-Sheets”.
    2. Drag a file to “M-Sheets” and the uploading notification shows that the file is being uploaded to “A-DWGs”.
    3. The file is uploaded into the subfolder “M-Sheets” in “M-Sheets”.

If yes, could you upload some screenshots showing the issue in your environment for our reference?

Does the issue happen in a specific library or a specific site? If you move the affected folders to another library in another site, will the issue happen? If no, I suggest you create new folders in the affected library to see the result.

    Best Regards,

    Cliff

Quite a few users in my business are also experiencing this issue.

If you move from one folder to another, then drag-n-drop a file into that folder, it will upload the file into the folder you visited before, rather than the one that you are currently in.

Both Edge and Chrome experience this issue.

I've tried clearing cookies, cache and other site data. Also tested using an Incognito window, yet it still does it.

This is definitely a recent thing too. Never used to have this problem.
