Sharepoint uploading to the wrong folder

A user is reporting a strange issue. When uploading files to a SharePoint folder via drag and drop in their browser, the files sometimes upload to a different folder instead. For instance, despite dragging the documents into the folder "M-sheets", they are instead uploaded to "A-DWGs". I'm attaching an image showing the issue sent to me by the affected user. This is not the first time they have run into this issue, but I cant seem to replicate it on another computer. If it matters, the folder that the files are actually being uploaded to is a sub-folder of the same folder that M-Sheets" is a sub-folder of.

    Dear M1Marin,

Thanks for your updates in the private message.

As the issue may happen when the character of the affected file path exceeds the SharePoint Online’s limitation, we’d like you to provide the affected file’s full path for our further investigation. We promise that your tenant will not be accessed. Welcome to share the affected file’s full path and the log in the private message when you have time.

    Best Regards,

    Cliff

    Dear M1Marin,

Thanks for your updates in the private message.

As Rena mentioned in the private message, we’d like you to provide the actual full path of the affected file in your SharePoint Online environment in the private message and involve more resources to see if the file path causes the issue. As the path is provided in the private message,  your private information will be protected. Please provide the actual full path of the affected file for our further investigation.

@Tom, Philipp and Mimetus, could you also provide the actual full path of the affected file in your SharePoint Online environment in the private message as well?

    Best Regards,

    Cliff

    Dear Tom,

Thanks for providing the full path of the affected folders in the affected site library in your environment in the private message.

From the paths provided, it seems that you are using the root site collection, create a subsite in the root site collection, create a library and then create the folders in it. If yes, does the file misplacing issue happen when you just drag a local file from your computer to the folders in the library? To confirm the issue symptom in your environment, could you confirm whether the file will be putted to the right folder and be also copied to another folder or just be putted to the wrong folder in your environment? Could you provide the affected files’ names and the full paths of the affected files in your SharePoint Online environment in the private message as well?

@M1Marin, Philipp and Mimetus, could you provide the full paths of the affected files in your environments for our troubleshooting?

    Thanks for your effort.

    Cliff
