I just realized this problem seems to be happening to everyone. If you are in a chat group and someone shares an image, most times when you click on it to see the larger version it will not load, but show a blank screen instead. You have to leave the chat group and re-enter it multiple times in order to get the image to display properly. This did not used to be a problem. Maybe two months ago, this always seemed to work correctly - you click on an image and it shows the enlarged image. But now it typically just shows a blank screen.

I also am having the same problem, but it seems that popping the chat out to it's own window does seem to help (unlike the whole signing out and back in process). I'm not sure if Teams has an OutOfMemory issue where trying to open a picture in the main app causes issues, but opening a chat in a separate window starts a new process with fewer memory leaks and that works out without problems, but if you need lots of pictures from one specific chat, that could be a way to navigate the issue until it gets fixed. Let me know if it works out for any of you!

I've the same issue, a workaround that might helps is:

    • When I encounter the issue, I go to the three horizontal dots of the chat that contain the image
    • Then I go over a item in the pulldown menu that is shown, you do not have to click anything there.
    • Then click the image, then the pop-out seems to work properly

This seems to work for me for now when I've the issue

another solution is switch to Files tab and switch back then try to view image again.

I am looking forward to this fix. We have a mixed level of staff at our company and for one, the technical staff heavily uses Teams and we have seen our fair share of issues. I haven't deployed Teams for our whole company for the very reason because of the image issue. I am also not liking the idea that with Microsoft 365 that you can download office and create documents and upload them to Teams and then errors occur that are due to incompatibility issues with the downloaded Microsoft Office version and the Microsoft 365 Teams versions, it becomes frustrating when sharing documents and running into incompatible errors.

Getting back to the point though, we have not deployed Teams because of the images needing to click other options and back to chat doesn't cut it when you get hundreds of images sent to you in a day, the workaround that really helped was to right-mouse click the image and then click the image and it will always open seems to be how I can get around this issue as the best solution, but the fact that Microsoft hasn't fixed the issue and took 2 years to fix it doesn't show good support for issues, I want to use Microsoft products but with all these issues, seems like it's not very stable with its products and has got me searching for another solution.
