Turn on Microsoft IQ for an agent (preview)

[This article is prerelease documentation and is subject to change.]

Important

This is a preview feature.

  • Microsoft releases preview features before an official release so that customers can get early access and provide feedback.
  • Preview features have restricted functionality and aren't meant for production use.
  • Microsoft might change preview MCP tool names and parameters. Avoid hard-coded dependencies. Microsoft maintains scenario support.
  • Preview features are subject to Microsoft supplemental terms of use.

You can turn on Microsoft IQ from the Build tab to give your agent access to Microsoft 365 organizational data. Once it is on, your agent can access emails, calendar events, files, Teams messages, and more.

Prerequisites

  • an agent created in the new experience. See Create an agent.
  • Microsoft IQ must be available in your environment (contact your administrator if you don't see the option).

Turn on Microsoft IQ

  1. Open your agent in Copilot Studio.
  2. Select the Build tab.
  3. In the components panel on the right, select the Microsoft IQ button to open the Add Microsoft IQ dialog.
  4. The dialog shows three source categories:
    • Work IQ: Toggle to connect the agent to your organization's emails, chats, files, and activity.
    • Fabric IQ: Select Add to connect the agent to business data and analytics in Microsoft Fabric.
    • Foundry IQ (preview): Select Add to connect the agent to a knowledge base built in Azure AI Foundry. Learn more in Connect to Foundry IQ from an agent (preview).
  5. Turn on the sources your agent needs.

Turn on individual Work IQ sources

After enabling Work IQ, you can configure individual Microsoft 365 data sources:

  1. Toggle Work IQ on in the Add Microsoft IQ dialog.
  2. Select Work IQ to open its detail panel.
  3. Turn individual sources (such as Mail, Calendar, Teams, OneDrive) on or off based on your agent's needs.
  4. When you turn on Work IQ, the User Profile and Microsoft 365 Copilot Search sources are on by default.

Add scoped knowledge

Some Microsoft IQ sources support scoped knowledge—specific items you can pin for the agent to prioritize:

  1. Open a Microsoft IQ source's detail panel.
  2. In the Knowledge section, select Add to attach specific items (such as particular SharePoint sites or document libraries).
  3. Scoped knowledge items are prioritized when the agent searches that source.

Tip

Adding scoped knowledge helps the agent find the most relevant content faster, especially when the source contains a large volume of data.
