Update the Guideline and Advise send Consumers Questions to Microsoft Answers

One of the complain in this forum is some users will asking questions which are not related to IT Professional and Developers and I call it out of scope questions. Normally we answer those questions but I would recommend update the Guideline for this forum and advise community members when they come across a question which is not related to IT Professional and/or Developer, then instead of answering the question (even though we know the answer), redirect them to the consumer forum in Microsoft Answers:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us

This way , we keep the scope of the forum and we will make sure only questions related to Developers and IT Professionals will be response here. In case anyone interested in helping people with Consumer related issues then they could participate in Microsoft Answers too.

Example:

Valid Questions in Microsoft Q&A:

  • Group Policy in Windows 10

  • WSUS

  • PowerShell

Valid Questions in Microsoft Answers:

  • Change Background in a Personal PC

  • Troubleshoot in a Personal PC


There are certain questions where are available in both and we should observe the content of message for example

  • Company having Blue Screen error (IT Pro and Consumer)

  • Windows Update Failure

Note, in case the answer is available in Microsoft Answers, we could direct user to the post there and continue conversation there.
