Hi

I'm facing this issue with Windows 11 only, because there is no priority option for the keyboard layout.

I have installed 3 languages on my laptop, English, Arabic, and German, but I couldn't set the default keyboard layout. The keyboard language is changing automatically, I remember that there was an option in windows 10 which let me select the default keyboard layout.

Can you please help me to set the default keyboard layout.

    Hi Mohammed-Ghaleb

I understand that you are experiencing difficulty setting the default keyboard layout in Windows 11, and I'm here to help you resolve this issue.

To change your keyboard layout in Windows 11, you can follow these steps:

    > Go to Settings by clicking on the Start menu and selecting the gear icon.

    > Click on Time & Language, followed by Language & Region.

    > From there, you can add or remove keyboard layouts by clicking on the + and - signs.

If you want to set a default keyboard layout, you can follow these additional steps:

    > Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

    > Type "regedit" and hit Enter.

    > Navigate to the registry key HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Keyboard Layout\Preload.

    > You’ll see your keyboard layouts listed there. Right-click the item named 1, select Rename and change it to 3. Then rename 2 to 1 and 3 to 2 to swap the order.

    > Finally, reboot your laptop for your changes to take effect.

I hope this solution works for you, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I'm always here to help.

    Best regards,

    John D.

    Hi John

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, it did not work, I realized that the keyboard layout is changing to be like the language of the app I am using. but it isn't enjoyable for me. I need to have a default keyboard layout like in Windows 10.

    Best regards

    Mohammed

    Hi Mohammed,

Thank you for getting back to me and letting me know that my previous suggestion did not work for you.

It's possible that the keyboard layout is changing automatically due to an incompatible third-party app, a corrupted user profile, or even the default keyboard shortcut to switch layouts enabled. However, there is another solution that you can try to address this issue.

You can delete the Preload key in the registry by following these steps:

    > Press the Windows key and type "Registry Editor" in the search bar. Click on "Registry Editor" to open it.

    > Paste the following address into the address bar at the top of the window and press Enter: HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Keyboard Layout\Preload.

    > In the left pane, right-click on the Preload key (folder) and select "Delete".

    > Finally, reboot your laptop for the changes to take effect.

I hope this solution works for you and helps you to set the default keyboard layout as you desire.

    Best regards,

    John D.

    Hi Mohammed,

I understand how frustrating this must be for you, and I'm happy to assist you further in finding a solution. One additional solution you can try is to disable the "Let me switch to a different input method when I move my mouse to the corner of the screen" feature. Here are the steps:

    > Go to Settings by clicking on the Start menu and selecting the gear icon.

    > Click on "Devices" and select "Typing" from the left sidebar.

    > Scroll down and click on "Advanced keyboard settings".

    > Under "Switching input methods," toggle off the "Let me switch to a different input method when I move my mouse to the corner of the screen" feature.

If this solution does not work, it may be worth trying to troubleshoot your keyboard by updating your drivers, checking for malware or viruses, or even performing a system restore. If you need further assistance with any of these solutions, please let me know, and I'll be happy to help.

    Best regards,

    John D.
