Exchange/Email Export

Question

Hello -

Just handed over the keys to admin and 1 week in, I am asked to export emails for legal reasons. I don't feel comfortable doing that yet but do have experience doing this with Mimecast in the past. I went to Exchange Admin and exported a log for emails to a particular person, but it only goes back 3 months. I need it to go back for a year.

Should I be doing this in Exchange of something else? Purview? I have no experience with Purview but I am guessing it has to be done there. I will need to export any emails to a particular staff member with specific keywords.

Microsoft Purview provides three eDiscovery solutions: Content search, eDiscovery (Standard), and eDiscovery (Premium).
According to your description , I would suggest that you could refer to the following link to search and export emails you need by using eDiscovery (Standard).
Create eDiscovery holds in a eDiscovery (Standard) case - Microsoft Purview (compliance) | Microsoft Learn
Then refer to the following steps to export the searched Exchange content searched as one PST file:
Export Content search results - Microsoft Purview (compliance) | Microsoft Learn

*Note: To export search results, you have to be assigned the eDiscovery Manager role in Microsoft Purview compliance portal. It isn't assigned by default to the Organization Management role group. *

At last ,you could import this PST file into the particular staff member’s mailbox:
Import email, contacts, and calendar from an Outlook .pst file (microsoft.com)
