Hello Microsoft Support!

I am facing an unusual issue where my word files are showing a different icon on my windows 11 pc. I am also not able to create a new file when right clicking and opening the New option. All the other apps in the office suite are functioning properly but not word.
I am using office ltse 2021.
I have tried repairing, re-registering word and all the other options available on the internet but in vain. Attaching a screenshot of the same for your reference.

Hoping for a prompt response!

Regards

    Hi @Shaurya Seth ,
    Welcome to Q&A forum!

According to the screenshots you provided, I would like to confirm the following information with you.

    1. When did this issue start? Have you performed any updates or installation before this issue?
    2. I noticed that there are two documents could display the Word icon normally, can you open them in Word by double-clicking normally?
    3. How about other files in other locations?

First, please set your Word as the default app of Windows, and then please check if the follwoing sulotion is helpful to you.

    • Create a new blank document with name WORD12.docx and copy it to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\Windows\SHELLNEW" folder. If it is 32-bit Office, please change the path Program Files to Program Files (x86).

    148502-image.png

    • Then launch the Registry Editor, and navigate to the path Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.docx\Word.Document.12\ShellNew, if there are no Word.Document.12 and ShellNew keys, please create them.
    • And then create the follwoing String value inside ShellNew key. Value Name: FileName
      Value Data: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\Windows\SHELLNEW\WORD12.docx
      Value type: REG_SZ
