The Add-DnsServerRootHint cmdlet adds root hints on a Domain Name System (DNS) server. You can add root hints by specifying the DNS name server and IP address, or you can use the InputObject parameter to specify a DnsServerRootHint object.
PS C:\> Add-DnsServerRootHint -NameServer "root.contoso.com" -IPAddress 172.23.90.128
This command adds the IP address 172.23.90.128 for the name server root.contoso.com to the list of root hints on the local DNS server.
PS C:\> Add-DnsServerRootHint -NameServer "root.contoso.com" -IPAddress 2001:4898:7020:f100:458f:e6a2:fcaf:698c
This command adds the IPv6 address 2001:4898:7020:f100:458f:e6a2:fcaf:698c for the name server root.contoso.com to the list of root hints on the local DNS server.
Runs the cmdlet as a background job. Use this parameter to run commands that take a long time to complete.
The cmdlet immediately returns an object that represents the job and then displays the command prompt.
You can continue to work in the session while the job completes.
To manage the job, use the *-Job
cmdlets.
To get the job results, use the Receive-Job cmdlet.
For more information about Windows PowerShell background jobs, see about_Jobs.
