  • A new copy API allows developers to programmatically make a copy of a guide in the same environment.
  • 3D object complexity statistics appear on the object's Properties tab in the PC app and a warning displays if a 3D object exceeds the recommended complexity limits.
  • Performance improvements on HoloLens when loading objects in Guides steps.
  • Calls now end when the Guides app is closed or minimized on HoloLens. To keep calls active, disable the End calls on suspend setting on the HoloLens.

Bugs fixed and other improvements

  • Take a photo within Guides through the HoloLens and share it with other call participants.
  • Guides dynamically manages loaded content in response to overall system memory usage. This improves device stability when using multiple HoloLens features simultaneously (such as Guides, calling, files, mixed reality capture (MRC), and Microsoft Edge browser) and allows more file content to display. However, when multiple features are in use at once, anticipate potentially longer loading times when navigating through a guide.
  • Guides limits the maximum size of a single texture on a 3D object to 16 megapixels (such as 4K x 4K or equivalent).

Important

Guides 901.x isn't compatible with Guides 800 solutions. If you choose not to update to the 900 solution and remain on the version 800 solution and compatible versions of the PC and HoloLens apps, don't update to the 901.x version.

If you updated to the Guides Dataverse solution version 900.0.1.1, update to the new solution and PC and HoloLens app versions.

  • Added the ability to protect company information by restricting certain capabilities in Dynamics 365 Guides.
  • Added support of guides that use Azure Object Anchors (Preview) in the Content Migration tool.
  • Fixed an issue with disconnected calls or meetings with users without contact information (bots, PSTN, or anonymous users). These users will be shown as "Unknown" in calls and meetings.
  • Improved performance for calls with a large number of participants.
  • Improved reliability of sending chat messages.
  • Improved reliability of switching video between remote participants.
  • Improved stability for loading 3D objects.
  • Improved lighting quality and calculations, reducing flare/gloss on lit surfaces. Models in the HoloLens will more closely align visually with their representation in common viewers like 3D Viewer.

Bugs fixed and other improvements

This release fixes image quality issues for textures on 3D content and slate images. Highly detailed 2D and 3D content textures, especially those with linear patterns, now have restored clarity on the HoloLens. This change may increase memory requirements and cause new warnings or content loading issues if existing steps already exceed or nearly exceed recommended limits. Customers experiencing memory issues should review Optimize your 3D objects to use with Dynamics 365 Guides and Power Apps and Best practices for converting and optimizing real-time 3D objects for use in Dynamics 365 mixed-reality apps.

Calling

  • Fixed issue where video toggle and recording buttons might have been disabled
  • Fixed issue where the call recording indicator wouldn’t show correct state
  • Improved behavior of automatic video switching while in a call
  • Improved reliability of displaying screen shared by other participants while in a call/meeting
  • Improved reliability of displaying participants that are currently speaking in a call/meeting and fixed some visual issues

Slates

  • Fixed EXIF images that displayed incorrectly on slates
  • Fixed aspect ratio sizing when screen sharing
  • Fixed cursor visibility on slates in authoring mode
  • Improved sound FX when interacting with slates
  • Added titles to images opened from a chat
  • Fixed cursor to remain at the grab position when moving slates
  • Fixed issue with multiple slates highlighting when gazing at a single slate

File browsing

  • Fixed inconsistencies in the UI including button and breadcrumb positions
  • Fixed issue with file usage when internet connectivity is lost and recovered

Object anchors

  • Fixed issue that prevented object anchor creation
  • Fixed issue that prevented object anchor detection on similar looking shapes

Other

  • Removed preview indicator on the Settings page of the mobile-driven app for calling capabilities
  • Improved media player stability on PC app

Important

Guides Dataverse solution version 800.0.0.1 is a foundational change for key features in upcoming Dynamics 365 Guides releases and includes the new PhoneCall table. Updated versions of the PC and HoloLens apps are available for the new solution and require the 800.0.0.1 or newer solution. Also, if you have created any custom security roles, make sure to update those custom roles to match the permissions for relevant Dynamics 365 Guides Security roles (Author, Restricted Author) so that any custom roles have access to the PhoneCall table. In the Power Apps Security Role dialog box, this is the Activity table. Users with custom roles derived from the Author or Restricted Author security roles will be unable to log into the HoloLens and PC apps until the custom security roles are updated.

If you choose not to update the solution and remain on the version 700 solution and compatible versions of the PC and HoloLens apps, there's no impact.

  • Reduced number of “Out of Memory” crashes on HoloLens 2.
  • Adjusted the default microphone volume for calls recorded using Mixed Reality Capture. The default volume is now lower.
  • Fixed issue with <I> (capital I) tag not rendering italicized text correctly.
  • Fixed issue with most recent version of a 3D object not being shown in a guide when a model was uploaded. The cached version of the 3D object is now cleared and updated when a new model is uploaded.
  • Fixed issue with Hebrew fallback font not rendering correctly in some scenarios.

Important

HoloLens (1st gen) has entered Long Term Servicing State and is no longer supported on the latest versions of Dynamics 365 Guides. Customers on HoloLens (1st gen) can continue using the last supported app version (600.2103.19001) released on April 1, 2021. This version of the app is compatible with all 500 solution versions up to and including 600.0.0.1, also released on April 1, 2021. To continue using HoloLens (1st gen), existing customers should not upgrade to a solution version later than 600.0.0.1. Solution version 600.0.0.1 is no longer available for download for new HoloLens 1 customers.

Important information about HoloLens 1: In Dynamics 365 Guides version 502.2011.28001 (December 8, 2020 release) and later, HoloLens operating system version 10.0.17134 (Redstone 4) is no longer supported. This version of the operating system is used only on HoloLens 1. HoloLens 1 customers must upgrade to HoloLens version 10.0.17763 or later to continue to receive the latest updates. Work with your IT admin to update your HoloLens operating system. If you choose not to upgrade, you can continue to use the current version of Dynamics 365 Guides that is already installed on the device. However, HoloLens version 10.0.17763 or later is required to install Dynamics 365 Guides on any new or refactored HoloLens 1 device.

Version 404.2009.2003 of the PC app and version 404.2009.2004 of the HoloLens app fixed a bug introduced in the August 25 release that prevented some guides from opening and displayed a misleading error message. You don't need to update the Dynamics 365 Guides solution to get this update.

Rename guides in the PC app No

Other updates: Example guide is deprecated

From the April 28, 2020 release onward, the Example guide is deprecated and no longer deployed to new instances. If users have already installed the Example guide in a non-English deployment, they won't be able to open the guide. When attempting to open a localized Example guide, users will be redirected back to the Guides list.

Other updates

  • Removed different sizes for the same model from the toolkit (this change requires a solution update). Because authors can now resize objects, the different sizes are no longer required.

  • Updated the Follow (tag-along) behavior of the Step card to be consistent with the Windows Holographic OS (Shell) behavior where the Step card follows you when the option is turned on.

Other updates

The October 1 release also includes refactoring of code for hologram positions to enhance overall performance and enable future improvements. You may notice that the position of some imported objects, which have had scale applied to them, might be shifted. You will need to re-position those 3D objects. This does not impact the position of objects from the toolkit.

August 6, 2019

HoloLens app version 104.1908.2001.0 fixes an issue in the July 23 release of the HoloLens app that prevented the list of guides from being shown in the HoloLens application for Europe, Middle East, and Asia-based customers. We also released an updated version of the Power BI reporting template that fixes a bug related to missing data causing the report to break.

To get this update, you just have to update the HoloLens app from Microsoft Store. You don't have to update the Dynamics 365 Guides solution. For the Power BI report, visit https://aka.ms/guidesreport.
